If you are not from Nor Cal and traveling all the way here for our wedding, why not make a vacation out of it? There are a ton of amazing places to visit around Monterey. Take an extra day or seven and check out the sites while you are here. Below are a few that we recommend, please don't hesitate to call us if you questions about the area or would like help planning places to visit: 916-202-3233. - Big Sur National Park: The drive down Hwy 1 is one of the most scenic we have ever seen. The road is dug into the bluffs and cliffs just hundreds of feet above the ocean. Far below, the waves crash onto the rocky outcroppings. If you only have one hour to spare, this is it, just take Hwy 1 south out of Monterey.
- Hearst Castle: Bryan's favorite stop on Pacific Coast Highway. Two hours south of Monterey on Hwy 1, no words can describe this place.
- Santa Cruz: Cool surf town with a beach boardwalk that includes roller coasters and other rides. 40 miles north of Monterey on Hwy 1.
- Half Moon Bay: Home of the Mavericks Surf Competition, this beautiful bay has some of the best surf California has to offer. Two hour drive north on Hwy 1 from Monterey.
- San Francisco: Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Gay Pride Parade, The Leather Festival, and my personal favorite: Bay to Breakers. This city has something to offer all of us. Just a short 2 hour sprint north on Hwy 101.
- Yosemite National Park: 4 hour drive from Monterey, September is best time of year to visit, you won't find any crowds and the weather is still warm.
- Redwoods: There are many redwood forests along the coast, Muir Woods is just across the Golden Gate Bridge, the actual Redwood National Park is on the Oregon boarder, and there are many in between.
- Lake Tahoe: Boating, camping, hiking, casinos, ski resorts, and much, much more.
- Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks: Sequia has the world's largest trees, ever want to drive your car through one? Kings Canyon is home to Mt. Whiney (14,491), the highest Mountain in the lower 48.
- Napa Wine Country: Didn't get enough to drink at the wedding? Then take a 3 hour drive north, just don't drive back after a few glasses!
